Possible Catastrophic Events if seamen fails !

Have you ever wondered that,
How ships are being navigated at a busy port?
What are the rules and regulations do seafarers got to obey and comply while navigating a vessel to the port?

I am sure that you don’t read collision between ships, a capsized vessel or even a grounded ship near the shore in your daily mail. Right?

collision between vessel

capsized Ro-Ro
Grounded vessel

capsized container vessel
If any of the above incidents occur at the coastal waters or in an open water, the impact to the marine sector is extremely huge especially to the fishermen’s and this will directly affect the country’s economy and all surrounding countries too! The stock market can plunge leaving those shareholders to bankruptcy. The bad news doesn’t stop there, we have IMO (International Maritime Organization) which is a branch from the UN (United Nations) to investigate all sorts of maritime pollution and jail those seafarers, the secondarily affected countries may impose economic sanctions to the ship’s nationality, and not forgetting WWF (World Wildlife Fund) questioning on the oil spillage cleanup cost to reduce further the damage on the marine wildlife.

Just imagine tons of tons of crude oil is spilled into the sea and the entire ocean is covered with thick black oil. A catastrophic damage to the marine wildlife, to the entire world in general and this can’t be undone except to mourn over our losses.

Even birds are not excluded

The damage to nature is too huge to be contained

Polluted beach

Onboard fire is the worst nightmare for seafarers

How do we seafarers curb these nasty incidents? As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure. Yes, its 101% true and I couldn’t agree more. But in order to have prevention, some bad incident actually took place in order to enlighten and basically to remind the entire marine industry that there is still a certain aspect of safety we humans HAVEN’T THOUGHT ABOUT IT. It’s like it never had crossed our 1.4kg brain.

So, here comes the main question. Are the sailors truly skillful and incredibly competent to prevent accidents or are the rules and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) are too strict with severe punishment if failure to comply? THE ANSWER IS BOTH.
Just like cars and all land-based vehicles, every driver has to obey traffic lights and traffic rules to prevent accidents and in general to prevent loss of lives. Same goes for ships and it doesn’t matter size or length.  RULEs FOR ALL.

There are many marine rules such as:
1. Junction Rules:
If to your starboard Red appear, It is your duty to keep clear.
Green to Green or Red to Red, In perfect safety, go ahead.

2. Small boats should stay clear from Large Vessels
3. Safe speed
4. Look out

All these rules are the guideline to the crew as they are approaching port but how do they exactly know that they are getting close to the land every nautical mile?

And that is a whole new topic for a new blog post ........ stay tuned :)

1st contact with the SEA

Hey, a very good morning to you. I hope you'll have an awesome weekend with your loved ones and a blessed one too. Since it is my second journal, I would just like to share my love story towards the beach and the sea in general.

HAVE FUN READING......

As I am a Penangite, my childhood was all about having a fun time at the beach getting sunburned, building sandcastles and watch the sun as it disappears by the horizon proving to the entire world that endings at times can be beautiful and meaningful too.

Being the mischievous boy as always, my siblings and I accompanied with our parents did a lot of fun activities such as digging a hole and bury our feet’s in, hunting for sea snails, having a small competition among my cousins on ‘who’s sandcastle is the biggest’, collecting seashells and etc.

you guys have done this too? is your subconscious mind retracing all those fun moments? if yes, continue reading :)

Nothing is more relaxing than a blue sky and a blue sea

I am very familiar with how the sea tastes like as I tend to trip and fall during my childhood (small feet problem) and obviously, I drank some of those salty water unknowingly and unwillingly while I was playing with my cousins and siblings. At that moment, I didn’t expect the sea and the sun will be accompanying me 24/7  as I begin my career at the sea. My parents rarely bring us to the beach except during our school holidays, family picnic and during the festive season.

Now that I’m writing a 12 year's back flashback, I think I had a wonderful childhood by the beach and it’s never fading smell of SODIUM CHLORIDE! I meant Salt in other words.

Remember the periodic table that you are forced to memorize during your chemistry classes ????

Beach would be a relaxing getaway for the weekend

Getting to the serious part now, SWIMMING and SALTY WATER don’t go well, I know, I feel you and I also know some of you’ll be polluting the sea by spitting out. You can’t deny that right?

But before going into that, I am guessing that some of you might suffer from Thalassophobia.... wondering what’s that? The Fear of ocean and sea.

The only way to overcome is to learn swimming at a swimming pool. Don’t just get yourself a swimming suit and jump straight into an open sea despite being close to the beach. BARE IN MIND THAT, MALAYSIA IS LACKING OF LIFEGUARD AT BEACH so you can’t just imitate a scene from BAYWATCH and or else you might drown!

It’s not necessary to be a certified swimmer or a diver but at least the basics of swimming such as “frog-style” and freestyle should do the trick by avoiding you from drowning and help you out during your scuba diving sessions in future. Trust me, it’s way easier to swim in a swimming pool than a swimming in an open sea fighting against the tremendous tidal wave.

Make your own swing at the SHORE'S END

Finally, the earth is surrounded by 70% of water and 30% of land which means there are thousands of reasons why you should overcome Thalassophobia and join those banana rides, snorkeling, sea surfing and etc.

All Aboard ? Lets' Sail

It's my first time blogging and I think I am out of ideas. Well, honestly i'm feeling like a primary school student who is writing an English essay for the first time and since I am so used to type in SMS language, it feels kinda weird to type out every single word in full and with the right punctuation. Not forgetting those EMOJI's as well.

Finally i've made up my mind .......
and I would like start with by expressing my deepest gratitude and sincere appreciation to my beloved siblings, Reeash, Rhia, Chuojashni and Pavithradevi. They are the key players in regulating my life. Why ? Because they are all role models that motivates me thru education, career and basically on how to be the hybrid boy I am today.

I would like to also thank and appreciate every single soul who has been motivating  me to start a blog to share my life experience to this world. THANK YOU, GUYS!
.
Fun Fact: I do procrastinate alot .....cant help it!
But i took an oath this year to be a productive boy and an outstanding student this year.

and this me hanging out at my secondary school, High School Bukit Mertajam to visit my teachers that tolerated me for 5 years. I grow up listening to a Latin tagline that is very close to my heart, Aut coepisse noli aut confice, which means Accomplish or do not begin!

There alot to say but I think i'll save the rest for the future.
Adios seniors' and senioritas'
